A traditional crosshead handle country stick made from an selected piece of Somerset ash and fitted with a Sterling silver lap-band. The method of growing this material is intriguing: the tiny ash sapling is uprooted when only a few inches high and replanted on its side, with soil ridged over it. The sapling then sends up a shoot, which grows to form the shaft of the walking stick. The ash plant is then uprooted and the root system is fashioned into the crosshead handle. This walking stick can be cut to the appropriate length for the user and will be finished with a brass ferrule and an additional bell-shaped rubber ferrule for extra grip on harder surfaces.
