Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer an engraving service on your products?

We currently recommend our customers to take their umbrellas and walking sticks to their local hand engraver for engraving.

How do I measure myself for an umbrella or walking stick?

Although we strongly recommend that you seek advice from a professional physiotherapist, below is one method that you can use to determine what length to have your walking stick/umbrella:

The intended walking stick user should stand upright, in the type of shoes that they usually wear, with their arms hanging naturally by their sides. Another person should then measure the distance from the top of their wrist bone to the floor.

We recommend being cautious at first, when possible, as not to cut the stick too short as a this will cause the intended user to stoop forward and will not provide adequate support.

Please note that this information is a guide only. Consult your doctor or physiotherapist if you require specific, medical advice on this matter.

Do I need to make an appointment before visiting your shop?

No. We welcome you to visit the shop during our open hours. At busier times it may not be possible to give a personal service to every customer although we always aim to assist every person that walks through our door with great service. If visiting towards the end of the day we suggest having at least 20 mins available to browse our products. Generally, our workshop closes 15 mins before the shop closes.

What are the differences between; ‘The City, ‘The Slim and ‘The London’ Umbrella?

‘The City’ is the strongest of the steel tube city umbrella that we manufacture. It is made with a 10mm steel tube, a specially woven nylon twill cover (with a hand sewn furling band, a metal runner and is finished with a wooden end. There are hand sewn prevents on the inside of the cover to reduce abrasion between the cover and the joints of the frame. It comes complete with a nylon twill case and is the heaviest of the three city umbrellas.

‘The Slim’ furls the most tightly of the 3 city umbrellas. It is made with an 8mm steel tube, a durable nylon cover (with a hand sewn furling band), a metal runner and is finished with a wooden end. There are hand sewn prevents on the inside of the cover to reduce abrasion between the cover and the joints of the frame.

‘The London’ is the lightest of the 3 city umbrellas. It is made with an 8mm steel tube, a polyester cover (with an elastic furling band), a resin runner, and is finished with a needle end.

None of these umbrellas can be cut to a different length.
