Walking Stick Care
Whatever the price of your James Smith walking stick, a great deal of care and attention has gone into its manufacture. Below, we offer some suggestions to help prolong the life and appearance of your purchase.
If you have used the stick in the rain, dry it off carefully away from direct heat. For sticks with a varnish finish, polish occasionally with a neutral coloured shoe polish. With unvarnished sticks, such as bark ash, clean occasionally with a damp cloth.
Dark coloured woods such as rosewood or ebony benefit from an occasional polish with an appropriately coloured shoe polish. Remember to use the polish sparingly.
Polishing the handle is not recommended. Replace your metal and rubber ferrules as soon as they show signs of wear.
For silver handles or mounts, clean gently with a proprietary silver cleaner.
Do not store your sticks in direct sunlight or by a source of direct heat.
Handle with care! Handles made from unusual materials such as ivory, horn or tortoise shell require special care and cleaning.
We offer an after-sales service on all our products. Please contact us if you wish to know more about this. Unfortunately we are only able to offer this repair service for items that we have made or have sold through the shop.
